I love earrings. No, seriously. I have a mild obsession with them. When I was younger, my mother refused to let me get my ears pierced. She said, “If God wanted us to have holes in our ears, we would have been born with them already.” Gotta love mom. She still wears clip-ons. She finds them at thrift stores (I’m sure you were wondering). So, while all of my friends had their ears pierced, I had to wait in agony until I was a teenager to get my ears pierced on my own. I’ve religiously bought earrings on a regular basis ever since. The above picture is just a sample of what I own, and I still have several pairs that I used to rock when I was in college, including my circa 1989 “Salt-n-Pepa” hoops:

I don’t wear the hoops anymore. They’re pretty heavy and my mature ears would probably fall off my head if I put them on. Back in the day, they were making ‘real’ earrings…much more solid than some of the flimsy ones in the stores today. I’m always drawn to earrings with interesting shapes and patterns. Most of my earrings are gold or silver but lately I’ve been noticing some pretty colorful styles that I’d like to try.

Just like how a throw pillow can add the right amount of color to a room, earrings can do the same for an outfit. Here are 6 pairs that are on my wish list:

  1. Drop A Beat Earrings
  2. Bead Drop Earrings
  3. Betsey Johnson Queen Bee Earrings
  4. Gold Tone and Peachy Earrings
  5. Ralph Lauren Chandelier Earrings
  6. Kate Spade Balloon Bouquet Earrings

What do your earrings say about you?

Very cute story about your Mother, Kelly! I had a friend do my ears, in college. Yep, we iced the ear, then she pierced!!! Can’t believe I let her do it. All was fine, but one hole was a bit lower than the other, and a little close to the bottom!! About ten years later I let them grow back, as I had always loved big clip ons anyway. So that is where it is now, except my daughter says I simply “must” get them pierced again (professionally!) I have quite a collection of earrings: yes, thrift shops are great. And then when my Mother died I inherited all her fabulous 60’s (clip) earrings. We will see what happens….

This is a great story, Libby! Weren’t we just fearless when we were younger? I’d love to see your mother’s collection of earrings. You’ll have to send me a pic!
